Genevae 1697, pp. (12),116; (8), 114, (6); (12), 195; format: 11 x 18 cm.

The work of Michael Aloysius Synapius physician to Chancellor Radziwill. Thefirst part is dedicated to J. K. Lubomirski; the author here polemics against Galen's medical claims, including his theories on humors and temperaments.

The second part is of a more practical nature, you will also find medical news about Poland, e.g. about the medicine of the Cossacks, Tartars, about quackery, about the use and at the same time abuse of alcohol for treatment.

Giedroyć. in his work " Biographical and bibliographical sources for the history of medicine in old Poland." published in 1911, writes "And so with regard to the causes of koltun, he considers those given by various authors and does not concede them., among other things, he opposed the theories that its cause is the properties of certain rivers or that the cause is the defective structure of the skin glands. Instead, he believes that its causes are climatic conditions, abuse of vodka, excess meat dishes and diet, while the best cure is borscht."

Noteworthy is the section On Charms, in which the author states "that he himself saw in Lithuania , those who possessed the power to harm other people and animals" [ also after Giedroyc]. There is also no shortage of practical recommendations on how to cure various diseases such as scurvy , or catarrh, and finally interesting recipes such as vodka for everything, or mulled wine with egg yolk sugar and roots by General Czarnecki ?, or a Moscow recipe for the medicinal use of tea.

The end of the third section dedicated to John III Sobieski is a testimony to the advantages of pills prepared from gold and other substances in Vienna by the doctor Laska.

Thefinal third section is a critical review of 83 Hippocratic aphorisms.

Estreicher notes this old print, but gives no piece known to himself!

In Poland, Estreicher notes 2 pieces with a similar title from 1693, "Absurda vera, occasione potissimarū quarundam controversiarum: quae Neotericis, cum Galenicis intercedunt: Orbi curioso Medicorum, in compendio denuo exhibita, authore Michaele Aloysio Sinapio v. Senfft nob. Ungar. Phil. et Medic. D. Celsissimi Principis Radzievilii M. D. Lithuaniae Archi-Cancellarij, personae et aulae medico " in the Krasinski Library burned in 1944 and the mostly destroyed Zamojski Library.

Very rare!
