THE AUSTRALIAN
Novel

Roman Darnowski, a young social climber, navigates high society with ease. So far, however, his connections have brought him neither money nor power. That is about to change.
Eliza Orzeszkowa is one of the most important Polish writers of the Positivism era. Her works are characterized by a keen sensitivity to social issues—in his eulogy, Józef Kotarbiński even called her “the compassionate heart of the era.”
