A young careerist Roman Darnowski deftly handles himself in the salons. So far, however, acquaintances have brought him neither money nor power. This is about to change, however.
Eliza Orzeszkowa is one of the most important Polish writers of the Positivist era. Her works are characterized by a great sense of social problems - in her funeral eulogy, Jozef Kotarbinski even called her "the feeling heart of the epoch".
