PUBLISHER'S SOFTCOVER
"Many of the politicians and publicists who most often spoke out on the Jewish question, including Mikołaj Zyblikiewicz, Kornel Krzeczunowicz, Teofil Merunowicz, saw the causes of Galicia's civilization delays in the attitudes of the Jewish population, alien to Poles in social, religious and racial terms and pursuing their national aspirations contrary to Polish goals. In turn, Jews were commonly accused of activities against Polish national interests and of spreading all evil in Polish life. Therefore, although T. Merunowicz, for example, demanded forced assimilation through equal rights and citizenship of the Jews, he associated with the realization of these demands the hope of depriving them of their special legal, educational, social status, etc., and thus abolishing the privileges that ensured their superiority over the Polish population.6 As a countermeasure to Jewish aspirations to dominate the Poles, it was recommended to develop Polish entrepreneurship in every sphere of social life. They warned against the infiltration of assimilationist Jews into the Polish community, who were to fulfill the alleged clandestine recommendations of the eighteenth-century Frankist enlightenment-religious movement to subjugate Polish life."
