The story of several Polish emigrants who set out for Canada at the turn of the 20th century in search of a better life. Thanks to an incredible effort, persistence in overcoming difficulties, they manage to gradually put down roots in the new land, giving rise to a compact emigration community.
The author also shows the reasons for this exodus - social and political (including the story of the strike of the children of Września or the fate of Drzymała).
