An interesting legal woodblock in Polish from the Warsaw outhouse of printer Piotr Elert (†1653) musician, singer and Royal Typographer.

Two works by Pawel Szczerbic (1552-1609), lawyer, Lvov trustee and royal secretary, member of the commission for the correction of the Statute of Lithuania; edition III of Speculum Saxonum - in alphabetical order and edition III of the Polish translation of Ius Municipale To iest Prawo Mieyskie.

The Magdeburg Weichbild (Latin: Ius municipale magdeburgense) - an auxiliary index of laws that, together with the Saxon Mirror, shaped the entirety of legal life under Magdeburg law, commonly known as Magdeburg or Saxon. This law spoke of municipal citizenship, the founding of the city, the courts in the city, the city council, the spatial administration of the city, debts and fairs, etc., so it only concerned the specific legal relations prevailing in the city. Its Polish translation, after a period of Polonization of the German population, appeared in print in 1581 and 1610 through the efforts of the Lvov trustee Pavel Szczerbiec, entitled Ius municipale, that is, the Magdeburg municipal law. It was the first faithful translation of the Latin version. Since the 16th century, the Weichbild has become, together with the Saxon Mirror, the basis for urban and rural locations. The Ius municipale contains provisions of substantive and procedural law, with the predominance of provisions from various areas of civil law. Very interesting are the author's considerations in the initial part of the work, devoted to the genesis of law, its divisions, as well as the role of law in society. Particularly noteworthy are the numerous rituals cited by the author to accompany various legal actions, as well as the considerations regarding ordals, or "courts of God." Along with the works of Bartholomew Groicki, the works of Pawel Szczerbic are the primary source for learning about the municipal law of the First Republic.

The third printing is the second edition in Polish of the Chelm Law (German: Kulmer Recht, Latin: Jus Culmense vetus) - a variant of the Magdeburg Law created around 1233 in Chelmno and Torun. The first edition with various additions was promulgated in 1623, in Poznan by Pawel Kuszewicz.
