First edition of the basic monograph of the Congregation of the Resurrectionists, written by historian and General of the Order Fr. Pawel Smolikowski. Two heliogravures printed in Vienna and numerous portraits

"This is how one of the emigrants at the time, and future Resurrectionist, X. Semenenko. At that time he was already completely without faith, and a dangerous Socialist, who was vigorously sought by the Paris police. The first superior of the Resurrectionists, Bogdan Janski, at that time a Judaimonist, belonged to the Socialist sect, and was one of the main ones in it, along with his friend the famous radical Carnot. The third co-founder of the Congregation of the Future Resurrection, Kaisiewicz no longer believed in anything at that time and joined Freemasonry. Mickiewicz, on the other hand, was not only a practitioner, but full of religious elation (...) Mickiewicz felt the state of Polish emigration painfully. "Everything that surrounds us," he wrote to Kajsiewicz, "is very sad and the future is dark. I have not felt enough strength to make you happy." - "In our country constant quarrels and duels," he laments at another time. - A veritable tower of Babel! I live very sad." - Once upon a time, more than usually tormented by the bad news from his country and what was happening in exile, when, as usual, one Friday a group of his comrades gathered at his place after listening to Mass together, he called out to them: "There is no other salvation for us - a new Order is needed. But who will establish it? Me? too delicious. You? (to Plater) too aristocratic. You? (to Zaleski) too much of a democrat. You need a saint for this. - Janski will assume." - And Janski put on."
