Reed's book-is a literary reportage based on his own observations, facts and documents. At some point, the book became inconvenient: the facts came into conflict with the Stalinist concept of correcting history. In his book, Reed showed the prominent role of activists like Trotsky, Kamenev, Zinoviev and many others who were in opposition to the general party line in the later period.... Moreover, the figure of Stalin in the October period was omitted by Reed. This was enough to put the book on the de facto index in the USSR and the countries of the socialist camp....
