Jan Michalak was arrested by the Gestapo along with his parents as an under-16-year-old boy and passed through the Pawiak prison in Warsaw, the extermination camps at Majdanek and Gross-Rosen, and the Flossenbürg concentration camp commando in Leitmeritz.
The author survived the camps thanks to the help of his older colleagues, political prisoners. The memoirs of J. Michalak, which we present to the readers, received the fourth prize in the competition for memoirs and memoirs related to the concentration camp at Majdanek.
