(Estr. T. 15). Valuable work by French biographer and historian John Dorigny (1649-1731), describing the life and history of Antonio Possevino (1534 - 1611) - Jesuit, papal legate and diplomat, vicar general of Sweden, Denmark and the northern islands, Moscow, Inflants, Ruthenia, Hungary, Pomerania, Saxony.
In 1578 Pope Gregory XIII sent him on a mission to Sweden to bring an end to the Livonian wars. He then traveled to Moscow, where he was instrumental in concluding the Polish-Russian truce at the Zapolski Jama in 1582. He left a very insightful description of Sweden, Poland and Russia.
