'Servant of God' is one of those novels characteristic of Caldwell, in which he uses virulent black humor, creating a grotesque picture of the deep South province. In this novel, a fraudulent, self-proclaimed preacher enters the world of naive farmers, who, under the guise of liberating the souls of the 'faithful' from sin and decay, leads them into orgiastic states and robs them of whatever they can. The appearance of the "servant of God" will only briefly disrupt the atmosphere of sleaze and mindlessness in which the residents of the settlement are stuck.
BDB-/ condition, minor rips of the wrapper, NICE piece.
